META TAGS
Once your site is up and running, the final thing you need to do is for pick your keywords (if you have not had us do keyword research as a part of SEO) so that the search engines will know what your site is about.
The most important part of this is the page title, as Google will ignore any extra keywords. You should not put more than 3 keyword in the title, for instance:
Environmental Branding | Vancouver Web Design
| Web Site Design Vancouver BC |
The best way to find meta tags is go on Google.ca and for instance, type in “West Vancouver Realtor”. Then pick two or three of the top sites that come up (not the highlighted ads, just the regular results on the page), and do the following:
On the Internet Explorer title bar, Go “View” “Source” (see screenshot attached). Then on the page of text that comes up, look for the following, for example, the following is a well written set of keywords for web design from our corporate design site:
TITLE: The title is a short description of who you are and what you are all about – it should contain what you do and where you do it.
<meta name=”title” content=”Environmental Branding | Vancouver Web Design
| Web Site Design Vancouver BC”>
DESCRIPTION: The search engine will use this overview of the site when people are deciding to click on your site or not, so make it appealing, see this example:
<meta name=”description” lang=”en” content=”Aroma Web Design, the Environmental Branding Company. Creating inviting virtual spaces to draw new clients to your business..”>
KEYWORDS: Keywords are the words that people will type into the search engine, that will key the engine in to display your page. Your page will rank higher if you have keywords that are repeated in the text of your page as well.
MUST-HAVE WORDS: Your name, the name of your company, your domain name, your industry, your location, the location you serve. The fewer keywords you have, the heavier they are weighed.
<meta name=”keywords” content=”Vancouver web design, vancouver web site design, vancouver website design, Vancouver web designer, web designers Vancouver, web design in Vancouver, web design companies Vancouver, Aroma Web Design, aromawebdesign.com, custom web design, logo design, image design, branding, php, BC, vancouver”>
Once you’ve done this for a few sites for top words that you want people to find you for, you can compile your own list, email it to us , and then we’ll take care of the registration process for you!
Please note: Registration with the free search engines may take anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months to be processed by the search engine, as a result of the number of submissions they receive. Also, free search registration does not guarantee you a spot on the top of the page or even in one of the first pages, depending on how specific or generic your keywords are and how many people are using those keywords.
If you want a guaranteed spot on the top of the page, please ask us about Google pay-per-click Advertising setup, or SEO services.
